If Spectral is not affected by melee damage nor spell damage...

What about "Increased Physical Damage with Melee Weapons"?

I understand all others, but this one is just a bit too ambiguous in my opinion. It says "Physical Damage" not "Melee Damage" but it still says "Melee" in it at the end.

You aren't really doing damage with a melee weapon when using ST.

Think of as if your melee weapon is now simply a bow, only you have a single type of arrow to use (spectral throw). Melee damage anything will not help it, only weapon specific damage, projectile damage, attack speed, physical damage...etc.

Your explanation is part of the source of my confusion. Look at, for example, the Repartee notable near the Shadow start area. "24% Increased Physical Damage with One Handed Melee Weapons" If I ST with a 1h sword or something, will this node increase the damage? Look at, for example, the Brutal Blade notable near the Ranger start area "20% Increased Physical Damage with Swords" the wording is exactly the same between these two node except that one is swords and one is generic one-handed melee weapons. From what I understand, the swords one WILL add damage to ST. Now, look at, for example, the Weapon Artistry notable node also near Range start area. "20% increased Melee Physical Damage" This one is worded significantly different than the other two and it seems very clear based on this wording that it WILL NOT add damage to ST.

Can you see now why I am confused?

"increased melee damage" will not apply, because no melee damage is dealt - damage is not being dealt in melee, but by a projectile.

"increased damage with melee weapons" will apply, because a melee weapon is being used to deal the damage. It's just not being used in melee.

This is exactly the same as lightning strike projectiles in terms of which modifiers apply.

I just found this from Mark_GGG in the Spectral Throw discussion thread. So I guess that answers my question. "Increased Physical Damage from One-Handed Melee Weapons" DOES increase ST damage.

Yeah, sorry I misread things earlier. I actually have increased damage with two handed melee weapons points on my own ST char. Nice that you found an official statement though :)

That's because the rule hasn't been accurately explained to you. The word "melee" *can* appear in the description and still affect Spectral Throw, but not if it modifies the word "damage". If it instead modifies the word "weapon", for example, it's ok.

This is wrong. You *are* doing damage with a melee weapon when using ST, you just aren't doing melee damage. You are dealing projectile damage using a melee weapon.
