Why is soul Taker so outrageously expensive??

Can someone explain why soultaker is like 60 exalt? It has mediocre damage, and one easily sustain mana without one with a little bit of mana leech (rings, worm's molt, necklace or gloves).

Im using this piece of crap:

and it gives me more than enough mana. And I get to use a weapon with almost twice as much dps as soul taker.

Also I already use Hatred so my attacks already chill. I really don't understand the price tag.

No way you could sustain your 6L 100-200 mana cyclone +auras with any mana leech unless you invest heavily in mana nodes.

you hate soul taker cuz your jello
In order to sustain skills, you need to either:

Invest a few points in mana and make sure you have a bit of free mana that isn't reserved,

slot in a blood magic gem,

ensure you have some mana leech, but if you primarily deal elemental damage you're going to need a LOT of leech.

For case one, Soul Taker means free passive points, and possibly an extra aura (or fewer passives spent on reduced reservation).

For case two, Soul Taker means a free DPS gem in a six-link.

For case three, while it's maybe not as great if you're dealing 50% physical, if it's something closer to 25% or 15% (due to auras), the cost of getting 10% mana leech might be more than the cost of a Soul Taker.

Because cyclone was costing me 250 mana or 500 life A SECOND and desyncs constantly meaning you don't leech so you either run out of mana and quit attacking like an asshole or pretty much spin yourself to death.

forget mana nodes
forget mana items
replace all with health/dmg
run 3 auras or more depending on gear/spec

Seriously you don't need Soul Taker. All you need is either go Life Regen(Blood Magic) or Mana Node(Less Aura tho).

PS: I'm also a Cyclone user(200 Mana per used) running 3 Aura(98% Mana Reserved), ST not needed while going Life Regen. That's just more than enough.

Hint: Blood Magic + Life Leech from gears + Blood Rage.

I doubt ppl using ST ever actually tried heavily invest there points into Life Regen node. I was once holding ST, sold it after I realized it's not necessary at all.

The difference between running 2 and 3 auras on mana. Without ST no mana to attack with on 3 auras
The discussion revolves around why it's so good (or not).

Why it's "so expensive" is really a function of perceived value (demand) vs supply. Simple as that.

There's just no direct way of co-relating functionality to orb price without going into the economics of it.

You're still losing a support gem slot to blood magic. In most cases, you if you compare ST to a top tier axe and then compare a the dps gain to that extra gem slot, the extra slot wins out.

ST not only allows you to cast your main attack without mana, but any attack including movement based ones (leap slam, flicker, etc)
I figured it was because of people running very mama-intensive 6L abilities like...say...Cyclone. Could understand that for a DW build, or even 'sword and board', but yeah...see them priced around 40+ exalts here on Standard, and that's the new ones. A legacy one like the one I have and never got rid of:

It is nice for running a 6L Infernal Blow + Melee Splash setup indeed.
