Question about respec

If you wanna do a complete respec you'll need your level in Orbs of Regret.

You don't have to specifically farm for orbs or regret, they can be bought from vendors.


8 Orbs of chance turn into 2 orbs of scouring.
2 orbs of scouring turns into one orb of regret.

So you can get a full respec (111 passive points, according to the skill tree on the website) for 888 orbs of chance.

Well, you could also farm 222 orbs of scouring or 111 orbs of regret. Or any combination thereof.

My point being that if you want a respec you will have to farm or trade for it, but you can get one.

My point being that if you want a respec you will have to farm or trade for it, but you can get one.

With that said, would one still be correct in assuming that rerolling a new hero would be a much faster method?

Depends on your luck with drops and such, if you get some high-end orbs and sweet rares, then you could probably trade for the orbs quicker than you could level from 1 to 70 or whatever.

But generally speaking, yes rerolling is the consistently fastest way.

Question: If a node is linked to 2 other nodes, is it not possible to respec it?

eg, x-y-z , say I want to respec "y" node, is it possible?

If x and z are linked some other way, then yes.
If not, then no.

You cannot remove points that break the chain.

I posted this elsewhere, it is a more accurate calculation of the cost of a respec.

Or you could buy 'em for orbs of chance.

Well strictly speaking, you buy orbs of scouring from orbs of chance.

So..
According to http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/102578 there are 120 skill points available in the game in total.

So say you want a full respec.

8 orbs of chance buys 2 orbs of scouring
2 orbs of chance buys 1 orb of regret.

For for a full respec you'd need to farm 960 orbs of chance.

Now.

There are three quests that grant 2 respec points, for a total of 6 per difficulty.
So you can get 18 respec points this way.
This means a full respec (assuming you're at level 100) will cost you 942 orbs of chance.

In general you'll need (YouLevel*8)-18 orbs of chance for a respec. Assuming you've completed all difficulties. After you've used the 18 quest respec points you'll need (YouLevel*8) orbs of chance for a respec.

Definitions:
RQD : Respec Quests Done, this includes returning the two statues in Act3
RQD2 : Respec Quests Done, This does not include returning the statues.
NoDC : Number of Difficulties Completed
NoSR : Number of Statues Returned

Or more generally: (YouLevel*8)-(2*RQD*NoDC)
Even more generally since the Act3 respec quest rewards you a point for each statue returned.
(YouLevel*8)-(2*RQD2*NoDC+((NoSR*NoDC)))
Where (NoSR*NoDC) is a number between 1 and 6.

Better get farmin'.

If this feels too much like P2Win, sell them on the basis that a character or account that uses them cannot win leagues, whatever yoy consider I'd be paying to win. If anything needs to be changed, it's the very name of the Orb of Regret.

It's a pretty expensive orb, so you're not likely to squander vast numbers of them on petty mistakes. And if the quest rewarded refunds don't suffice, you're more likely to start over with a new character, since farming enough of them for a full respec will take forever.

So, who's gonna use them? Exactly, the people who plan a partial respec into their build, because the path to it requires temporary support from skills that can be dropped at a later stage.

Do these players regret anything? Hell no! :)
