I'm doing something wrong here. Point me in the right direction please.

I've started playing very recently, about ~2 weeks. I've never played this type of game before so I mostly have no idea what I'm doing.
Used a guide for skill tree and mixed and matched some gear here and there(no exact guide for that one).

I can't seem to push higher level content. I think my dps is bad, but then again what do I know.
I feel like a glass cannon without the cannon part.

I went for lightning damage because why not. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Here's my character profile https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/junkypic011/characters

The Ranger one.

I still want to use Lightning arrow simply because I like the skill.

Any help is appreciated.

At a glance:
- Your cold restance is 18% => Should be capped at 75%
- Your chaos resistance is -60% => Should be not negative
- Your physical defense is based on evasion and dogde => Glas cannon build for more experienced players

Where did you get your equip from? That is nothing found by someone playing 2 weeks.
Ask that person who gave it to you, how to improve using it.

You may also try to farm the content you survive till you are more experienced for more difficult areas.

Edit: You maybe want to consider to play something more easy in the beginning. PoE is full of damage spike that you have to learn the hard way.

I capped my resistance at 75.
I literally have no idea where to get chaos resistance. Most gear I see doesn't have any.
As for the defense part, I'm fine with dying. I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere. At least until I can learn how to play it properly.

The equipment is self purchased. I said I'm new to this game, not to games in general. I looked up expensive items, got stupidly lucky with a doctor drop on a burial chamber, sold it for 6.5ex then used that to buy obviously underpriced items and resell them.
May not be the most ethical way to get stuff done, but it's a way.

I guess I'll stick to farming lower tier stuff until I get the mechanics down.
Chaos resistance is rolled on armour, jewelry and belts. If you don't mind trading you can look for uniques having a bunch of chaos resistance on it. But don't get distracted too much from the phyiscal resistance issues. It is much more important, since the game is ballanced around having 0 Chaos reistiance (no longer true in the temple of incursion).

Good luck with farming. Welcome to the grind. :)

Hey,

So since PoE is quite a complex game, i'd strongly recommend that you download Path of Building. It is basically a character planner which does all the complex calculations for you (you can even import your deadeye into PoB and see exactly where your DPS is now etc.) This will give you an idea of how far your DPS is from where other guides playing similar builds are.

Not at my home pc now so can only give you tips based on a cursory glance.

1) Unlike a few games where resistances are recommended, in PoE they are mandatory. Fire/Cold/Lightning need to be capped.
2) While Synopse has recommended getting Chaos res to a positive number, this isn't strictly necessary. You are, however, joining in a league that does have an abundance of chaos monsters inside the incursions so if Incursions are what you are struggling with, this may be worth investing in.
3) You've elected to go down a heavy abyss jewel gearset, which is not the most beginner-friendly approach. The issue with going so heavy into abyss jewels is your entire approach hinges on having high DPS abyss jewels, which you don't have. A good abyss jewel would consist of life, and flat ele damage added to attacks/bow attacks. Life + 2 damage mods is good. Life + 3 damage mods is great. Unfortunately good bow jewels can be anywhere from 20-30c to multiple ex so this may take time to procure.

Generally speaking bow builds follow this pattern (I am grossly oversimplifying):
Get enough dps to one-shot all trash offscreen, usually via crit which it looks like you have done.
Ton of dodge, ton of evasion, as much life as you can cram on. You really want to break the 5k mark for life. You can never have enough life.
Flasks - These are INCREDIBLY important in poe. They are not QoL things, they are essential make/break pieces of your build.
As a crit build you absolutely want a diamond flask. Typically you'd run something like Life flask, Diamond flask, Jade flask, Stibnite flask, Quicksilver flask. You want to try to keep your flasks up constantly. Get in the habit of hitting all flasks, killing mobs, refresh flasks just as they expire etc. You're still using white flasks/non-crafted flasks. Quality all white flasks to 20%, use transmutations to make them magic, then spam alterations on them till you get the below prefixes across your flasks:
1) Anti-freeze
2) Anti-bleed
3) Anti-Curse
4) Adrenaline on your quicksilver.

The flasks alone will boost your survivability a lot.

Hope that gets you started.
