Cursor mouse-binding related Animation Bug preventing attacks and skills from working correctly
I first noticed this and posted about it in a previous post on my Berserker. If you are holding down the right mouse button skill it would stop triggering/attacking if something under the cursor changed. The attack and attack speed were a build so it would be a short duration but noticeable and that report didn't seem to merit any response.
I rerolled to an Occultist to changeup my play style and as a last ditch attempt since my Berserker build is pretty much worthless because of a number of issues (see my other post). Based off my observations, it appears that any skill bound to the left or right mouse button will have issues to a lesser or greater degree if targetable items or mobs pass through the cursor. There seems to greater impact on the right mouse button than the left or middle. I noticed only a minor issue with binding skills to the left or middle mouse button (mostly it seeming like the skills and damage weren't being done properly but the animations would trigger), with the right click abilities animations get stuck ~ 80-90% of the time for skills bound to the right mouse button. Channelled skills or skills with channeled components appear to be impacted the worst, specifically I tested using a standard quest given blight gem . The animation gets near perpetually stuck preventing attacks but still using mana and triggering arcane surge without any spell damage or effect being applied to targets in the target area. Makes it very easy to die when you can't fight back and get surrounded. Moving the skill to a hotkey completely resolves the issue and Blight works as intended from a keyboard hotkey. It appears you may have a major mechanic bug where an interaction with the mouse binds and cursor prevents application of skill or spell effects. Observations seem to suggest that spell effect application on a target is at least in part reliant upon animations completing before the effect is applied and there may not be any bound checking being done in this code given the following. Once the animation gets stuck I have to close out to the character select screen before the attack works correctly and then it only works briefly before getting stuck again. The stuck state of one skill may also interfere with other skills also bound to the mouse (left, right, and middle buttons) by preventing effects from being applied to a lesser degree. Its very difficult to say for certain since there is no combat log present to assist in providing you with concrete numbers or more than just basic observations that would allow your technically proficient audience (end-users) to provide you with effective debugging information. I have doubts that an effective stack trace is actually being generated with sufficient detail to effectively troubleshoot issues with client engine code paths (like this). I don't see a large upload after submitting a debug so its doubtful enough information is being saved to replicate these type of issues for further debugging or units tests; just given the fact of how much RAM is needed by the engine to run. It also doesn't inspire confidence that no one I've seen, ever, seems to do debugging right.
