PoE 2 Classes Observation
So we have
Magic Woman (Witch) Magic Woman (Sorcerer) Ranged attack Woman (Ranger) Ranged attack Woman (Huntress) Ranged attack Woman (Mercenary) Man that hits stuff (Duelist) Man that hits stuff (Templar) Man that hits stuff (Warrior) Man that hits stuff (Marauder) Man that hits stuff (Monk) .. Sneaky Guy (Shadow) Does anyone see anything wrong with this picture? If they are going to keep the terrible gender lock at least have some variety to try and hide the thinly veiled sexism. i dont think this is sexist, i think its just realistic.
i dont think in a world like PoE there would be many females rushing into hoards of demons with a sword to slay them. females, on average (obviously there are examples that dont fit this on both ends of the spectrum) have less muscle mass than men. this isnt sexist, this is just a fact. in todays society we have the priviledge to be able to try to provide equality in everything and we should. but in a demon infested hellscape i suspect males would be the ones charging into battle with a sword, while females would be the ones using their intellect to get ahead. neither of these things are bad, its just realistic. males worked the coal mines, females were stuck homne taking care of the family. i know it does seem counter to todays culture of equality, i think so too, but ultimately, it is realistic when examined. are there stronger females than the average men? sure, yes. are there weaker males than average females? sure, yes. but on average the gender lock isnt unrealistic, it makes sense within the universe, although, i only play female characters, so i would love to see them undo the gender lock. |

" No, we shouldn't. There is a genetic predisposition towards (among many many examples) women being teachers as a career choice for example. Forcing men to be teachers and women to work heavy construction in the misguided pursuit of 'equality' or 'equity' only results in increased misery. Just let people do what they want. Freedom, not force, results in maximizing happiness. Insofar as that applies to PoE can we just let them build their world without bringing such fragile accusations sourced from irl insecurities? |

Yeah it's not the best look. We'll have to see what happens closer to time I guess, the game's still a long way out.
""I don't think it's sexist, <proceeds to go on a sexist rant>" All this stuff about "realistic averages" is irrelevant. Characters are not averages. The average person in the POE universe probably isn't killing any gods; that doesn't mean our characters shouldn't do so. (Also I suspect you have no data on population averages in the POE universe anyway). |
