New Vaal Pact?

I tried Vaal Pact with the new re-work 'Life Leech from Melee Damage is Instant
Cannot Recover Life other than from Leech'. I used it through Atziri's Acuity
Vaal Gauntlets. And it did not work well for me, every time I get hit with any kind of damage over time, I'm dead. I even tried, immunity to bleed, corrupted blood, and poison on my flasks, still does no good.

Has anyone gotten the new Vaal Pact to work with their build? I wanted to use the Atziri's Acuity gloves because they fit my build pretty good.
