My character shows a red *

I haven't played in a while, and when I logged into the website, 2 of my characters are unselect able and show a red asterisk. what does that mean?

Need new name?

I believe the reason is the timespan you haven't played, thus these old characters were marked by GGG to free up their names.
Could only find this single source (We're Freeing up Old Character Names), so might be wrong on this.
Your characters are save, but you have to rename them when you log into the game the next time.
