Why do I have to use Steam to play POE2?

Old School player, using the base client. Never used Steam.
Having bought the pack, I'm directed to Steam. I don't want to use Steam. Please Fix. Last bumped on Nov 21, 2024, 8:26:57 PM

I use steam, and I'm pretty sure the key can be used as an open online client also, it's been a while since 3.0 but the key is allocated to the account, not steam per se.
I agree further clarification from GGG would be nice on how to use early access as stand alone client not just steam . A fact is a statement that can be supported to be true or false by data or evidence. In contrast, an opinion is a personal expression of a person’s feelings or thoughts that may or may not be based in data.
