Path of Exile 2 Apple Silicon Support
Please make Path of Exile 2 support Apple Silicon.
Millions of Macs are sold every year, but few games support Mac, particularly the new Apple Silicon Macs (i.e., all future Macs). If you do provide first class support to Macs, then you can potentially reach a huge captive audience (about as many Macs are sold a year as Playstations and Xboxes), and outperform other games that don't support Mac (e.g., Diablo 4). It also seems like Apple have recently worked to make it easier to port games to Mac, with their Game Porting Toolkit 2. I think hiring someone to just work on ensuring continued high quality Mac support could easily pay for itself, especially once you establish a reputation for having good quality mac support. Few gamers play games on a mac, but that is almost entirely because almost all games provide abysmal Mac support. Speaking personally, I was extremely keen on buying the early access supporter packs, but I might need to reconsider as I don't currently have access to another gaming device. I think it would be profitable. A lot of people own a mac. If you look up the stats, then you see it is roughly the same number sold each year as Xbox and Playstation. And a lot people would game on a mac if there were games to play!
There might be less Mac gamers than there are Windows gamers, but there are also less games to compete against. Path of Exile 2, with its focus on a) accessibility and b) being free to play, is really well placed to dominate the field of Mac gaming. By being playable on Mac, path of exile 2 would take a huge slice (almost everyone who wants to play games on a mac) of a smaller pie (everyone who wants to play games on a mac), and I think that could easily be profitable. Especially when Apple are supporting porting games, and thus lowering the dev time needed to provide support. For example, gamers used the Game Porting kit I linked to manually port the Diablo 4 client so that it would work on a mac. Framerate was low but that was with 0% developer optimization or time, just gamers messing with the client, with the tools Apple provided! It seems like the right developer could rapidly provide Mac support. Last edited by FacePerson#7413 on Nov 24, 2024, 1:59:45 AM

There is only 1% or less gamer using mac. That promise poe 2 will support mac (M series) soon(tm), is all you can get.

Really? Try looking up some real numbers. MacOS is 15% of the market while Windows is 75%. That makes for FAR higher than 1%.

I agree, i work on mac, do everything on mac, except playing, and i only play poe 2 because i love HnS.
Having a m4 max full spec, and looking to get the m4 ultra for as desk when it comes out i really hope for a M silicon poe 2. I dont know if they will do it, but if so, i can get ride of pc for ever. Takes room, makes noise, use huge electricity, i just wanna get ride of it. Considering completely stopping playing just to sell this horrible computer. Would be so nice if poe 2 comes to mac M when official release comes out. |
