Merging client account and steam

Hi dear GGG and community,

I've played PoE with a standalone account that I registered on the website a while ago.
Now when I want to buy the EA for PoE 2 I have to go on steam. Question is if there is a way to link these accounts so I don't lose my MTX from the standalone account? The email for both the client account and steam is exactly the same if that's an important point to add.

I tried researching this on my own but to no success.

they told me they could not merge MTX between Steam and Standalone client
