Opinion/Suggestion - PoE2 needs dedicated Summoner Ascendency

Hello!

I am really hyped for PoE2, but I just heard that apparently there will not be a dedicated summoner ascendancy. And even though I want to try to stay open minded, I just cannot see how a pure summoner could ever be viable in such a setting.

Just an abstract train of thought. If you keep summons open to all ascendancies, then the summons will always be at a baseline power level. The ascendancy nodes are what differ and bring the most power. Therefor the other abilities you use determine if one ascendancy is stronger or weaker for a "summoner" then another. Not the minions. You are basically forced to be a hybrid or just take a survival ascendancy.

Alternatively, you could try to be a pure summoner. But then you would forfeit a large part of ascendancy bonuses. Or are we just not supposed to play pure summoner?

Maybe I am missing something. But how could a pure summoner ever keep up with a hybrid without a dedicated minion ascendancy. Or many different ones. Like a Druid ascendancy for wolves, a Huntress one for a specific type, and so on. But I truly think we need 3-4 ascendancy notables (in one ascendancy) for minions to have real summoner builds. Everything else will result in hybrid builds at best.

Currently minions to me look more like an aura you just fit into every build to have some blockers. Or if they are stronger than other abilities, just the core to each build.

That said, I have trust in GGG. Therefor I assume, that I am missing something obvious. Can someone please let me know what I am missing?

Kind regards

I don't see a problem, being a pure summoner and using the bonuses of your ascendancy since they are kept open enough to be used with minions as well.

If i recall correctly skillgems don't use attributes any more so all classes should be able to use minions in some form if one pathes to the minion nodes on the tree, a pure build could be possible.

Out of the top of my head:

- stormweaver with elemental minions
- chronomancer that purely uses minions
- infernalist with fire based minions
- deadeye using projectile minions

I'm sure there could be ways to use minions for the bloodmage as well but i'm not into too much research right now.

Druid will have good use for minions as well as Templar when they get added and maybe shadow gets some possibilities as well with dot or poison minions.
been there, done that. GGG has made every effort across the last 12 years to completely obliterate this idea off the map.

Like....they literally did everything they possibly could to go in the exact opposite direction of a dedicated summoner class. If there was one thing that developers hate more than melee, its summoners.

I'm surprised there's even usable minions at all in PoE 2.
