New to PoE - Pick the right community.

Anyone coming into PoE2 for the first time just a couple things that could help your experience.

Don't get sucked into the meta or start believing the elitist gatekeepers and sweats, purely for FOMO. Plenty of people in the community who will tell you that you have to play a certain way. Ignore them. Play how you want, as that's the only way to do it. Avoid certain communities that are more toxic or stuck up, as there are a lot.

Enjoy your experience. Great parts of the community do exist, so get involved with the right one as they can be extremely helpful. Be sure to join the right global chat also, as there will be different groups in each.

If you're looking for more laid back creators and communities my recommendations would be someone like Mathil, Ghazzy, Balormage, AlkaizerX, Captain Lance, or PohX. Very informative communities that are there to help. Less drama than in other groups within the PoE landscape.

If you're wanting a more dedicated group that wants to know every detail of every leaf designed, I would say look to get involved with a community like Fubguns, SpicySushi's, Ventrua, Jungroan or Ben. Not bad groups at all, normally ok to interact with, but let's just say you'll find the sweats in these groups more on average than others. If a more hardcore play-style and elitist mentality isn't for you it may not be the best experience, although they are welcoming generally.

If you are wanting to get involved with communities that are in the middle ground, both informative but understand it's just a game, I would say look at some like Zizaran, Steelmage, Tatiantel, or Asmongold. Helpful people within those communities for sure, but overall less of an elitist mentality than the previous.

Or if none of the above is for you, you can watch Quinn.

And last as someone with prob 15-16k hours in PoE I can tell you it's worth the investment so just enjoy your time in the game. It's an amazing experience and the most rewarding in gaming at the moment in my opinion.

Y'all be good.

There is one simple rule in gaming if having fun is your goal - avoid any and all 'content creators' like a plague. Stop using twitch too - that platform deserves to diaf.
I didn't say to watch Twitch, I said getting involved with the communities, which is far more than just Twitch lol. Getting involved with a good community can def help newer players understand the game better.

Also, Twitch can be entertaining, just like any other form, if you choose the right thing to watch. No need for the platform to die, just don't watch people you don't like. Saying you can't have fun while being involved with a community is stupid and a dumb way to think.

Thanks for the reply though, even though you can't look past some weird personal bias...

What a strange take.

For me, twitch (or youtube), content creators, are often a reason why I enjoy the POE and online games more.

I don't have any irl friends who play the same games as I do and due to my family and kid I don't want to use a mic and speak to someone on discord. Content creators and Twitch helps me feel like part of a living world, interact with others and part of a community. Way better than Reddit or forums.

However, as much as I like Asmongold, his streams or clips, and his wild takes, I would not go to him or his community for POE info, IMO there are way better content creators or communities that either focus only on POE or ARPGs in general.

Anyway, thank you for providing a nice list of good content creators.

Why is it a strange take?

Im just curious as I listed multiple communities you can get involved in, made it clear Asmongold's community is in the middle ground and explained why. I wouldn't go to his community either for PoE information directly, but its a fun community to be involved in.

I also replied to the other chatter in a manner explaining why Twitch was fine, despite him not liking it which is irrelevant. Being involved in a good community, regardless of the manner which you do it, is amazing to me.

I don't use discord either so I understand that side of it.

Just wanted to clear up any confusion. Thanks for the reply :)

Pretty sure this is already underway with the new Ad revenue changes.

@OP thanks for throwing out some names.

I am new, I played POE but not for really long, more just to check it out before Diablo 4 launched. I did enjoy it though, the systems in the game were well thought out.

I like to make my own builds and don't really watch other people playing video games I can play myself. Not really sure I am the community type either. Are there any sites that give good background info like Damage calculations, and other inherent knowledge? I was planning to look at MaxRoll for that stuff...but if there is one specifically for POE it would be good to have that info. Thanks.

Any recommended guilds to join? I am just a casual, looking to pick some stuff from Guild stashes if I need to. :D
Don't bother with streamers, youtubers, commentators, video guides, people who know how to make mirror a day and want to share, people who know how to make mirror an hour and want to share, theorycrafters and, most of all, bug abusers.

I mean I simply made suggestions to try and guide newer players in the right direction. I didn't tell anyone what to do. Reading comprehension seemed as though it was tough for you, so I wanted to come explain it to you in simpler terms, so you could understand it better. Hope you are able to get what everyone else understands now. Have a good day and enjoy the release!
