[POE 2] Demon Form not using vitality

I put points in demon form and it states its a persistent buff, I got recommended to grab vitality and clarity as a support but when I activate demon form no spirit gets reserved and I get no life or mana regen.

It started working for me after I assigned the spirit to the secondary weapon slot.
