PoE 2 Incinerate type of damage?
I've been trying to ask it in several places to no avail.
Does Incinerate have HIT part or not? PoE 1 had but it's not clear in PoE 2 since the gem sheet has both Fire Damage and Estimated Ignite damage - this makes me think it has HIT part. On another hand I tried using Gain % as extra cold damage mod - and I don't get any chill effect from Incinerate while I do with other fire spells and since Gain mod doesn't work on Damage over time then it probably doesn't have any HIT part and masteries like increased hits damage vs burning enemies are useless? Or supports like Execute that lets you deal more damage with hits vs low hp enemies. I was wondering why they let you even slot the support gem then but maybe it's because of cast while channeling support possibilities Last bumped on Dec 19, 2024, 9:34:09 PM

I'm also wandering if Incinerate 'Hits' the target. Like does the Acolyte of Chayula passive that adds chaos dmg to hits work with Incinerate?

There's a new tech in PoE2 that allows damaging ailments to be inflicted without an actual hit involving. If you carefully read Incinerate's description, you'll notice there's no damage listed. It deals damage purely via ignites.
"No, it doesn't hit. |

" The tag of incinerate "sustained" says it hits but it doesn't seem like it does Last edited by Pandahhu#4483 on Dec 13, 2024, 6:58:01 PM

They tried so hard to add tooltips and highlighting but this shit still doesn't make sense half of the time.

Im not sure about the interaction, but i think it DOES hit. But it doesnt deal any hit dmg. It calculates the ignite of a hit, that is the flat number listen in the skill. Just like MonuHuna told.
My hypothesis for it Hitting is that it does proc Cast on Ignite. You see, Cast on Ignite clearly states it bases itself on ignites by HIT. So how can it gain cast on ignite energy if Incinirate doesnt hit? The real question is if hit dmg on the tree scales the ignite dmg from the internal hit calculation. |

Would be interesting to know definitely, also for the passive "intense flames", that provides more hit damage on burning targets.

It probably works likewise to gas grenades?
As in, it deals DoT damage as if it hit for X damage. Only, the grenade says in the tooltip that it doesn't actually hit. Maybe Incinerate has a modifier of 100% less hit damage, but still hits? ... the game's out for what, half a month, and it already gets confusing. XD Zaanus:
