Why do we still have to identify items?
After playing since PoE1 beta, it is honestly the most frustrating thing in the overall gameplay loop for me and it feels archaic to keep holding on to this mechanic. After combat, interacting with items is the core aspect of the game. Finally we get a flask rework and the removal of teleport scrolls, why not wisdom scrolls as well? PoE2 was the opportunity to change it and they only addressed parts of it with the introduction of gold. Do the mechanics around unidentified items justify the massive pain of identifying every item? The identify vendor honestly feels like a clutch, I still have to identify when running maps and going full inventory. Are the server implications really unsolveable? If they can't drop identified, they could at least be identified when getting picked up. The loot filter possibilities with identified items on the ground would be so much better than the current system, just look at Last Epoch. Somehow less loot and more quality loot was the goal for PoE2 and yet dropping them identified was still too costly for the game servers? Most of the stuff dropping are other items anyways. It's so much more fun in Last Epoch to keep playing and only seeing items on the ground, that you actually want/need by affixes/suffixes. Instead of sifting through all the gear manually. Even with a rudimentary loot filter. Last bumped on Dec 10, 2024, 7:33:15 AM

You only need wisdom scrolls in PoE 2 for the first areas until you meet a certain character in Act 1 who will then ID stuff for free.

ID Scrolls are interesting because at the begining of the game it forces you to priorise what item you will use (by id it). It's a little strategical element i like.
"Should i wait to id that but take risks not use it ? Or pay 25 gold right know to but a Scroll and not save money for any better item later ?" Also it's like opening suprise boxes :) |
