How work mechanic "increased Elemental Damage with Attacks"
Hello.
I want to ask a question about how the increased "Elemental Damage with Attacks" stat works on weapons. For example: The skill converts 80% of physical damage into ice damage. Will it work with this skill and how? Last bumped on Dec 21, 2024, 10:18:22 AM

Any "Increase" on a specific damage type work in every situation.
In your case "Elemental Damage with Attacks" means, it will increase any elemental damage you do ONLY on skills with the tag "Attack". So if a skill converts 80% of your physical to an element, then you will have X% increase on those 80% from physical. The calculation in poe1 is a bit complex, but if you're interested you can find it on the forums. But TLDR: if you do flat elemental damage AND/OR your are converting any type of damage to elemental damage. If you have "increased elemental damage" somewhere, it will increase your elemental damage. Side note: increased elemental damage is not always the optimal method to scale your damage. |

" I think they mentioned few times, that in PoE 2, only bonuses to converted type of damage apply. So remaining 20% of physical damage will get bonus from increased physical damage, while converted 80% will not, but will from bonuses to elemental damage. So, if you have 50% increased physical damage, 100% increased elemental damage and do 100 damage with 80% of it converted to cold, I think it should be 0.2 * 1.5 + 0.8 * 2 = 190 total damage. Am I understanding correctly that this is just an additional bonus to elemental damage, not multiplicative?

" Yup that's what I meant. I did not go in depth on the calculation as I'm not sure of the exact changes from PoE1 right now and Deadsult was asking for the overall concept anyway ^^ " This is what Suchka just explained. Apparently in PoE 2... Assuming you do 100% increased elemental damage: It's multiplicative ( 80% of physical conversion x 2 ) but BEFORE any physical increase so the final computation is additive :) If you prefer, your elemental damage WILL NOT increase if you boost physical damage increase bonuses. So in that case where you'd be using increased elemental... the proper method would be to boost the flat physical damage instead if you're converting to elemental. Again, assuming Suchka is right on the calculation in PoE 2 : D |

I was testing out a blue xbow with ~70% more elemental dmg with attacks on it in comparison to another blue xbow of the same type the other day to try and figure out if it was having any effect on Galvanic Shards (40% physical converted to lightning), but I couldn't feel that it was doing anything. The DPS number also stayed the same on the skill with both xbows as well.
I've just noticed some of my passives are worded the same way (% increase elemental dmg with attacks) and now I'm wondering if they're actually doing anything, or if I should respec. If someone more knowledgeable could reassure me that it's working that would be great. |

i did some testing and bought always the ~ same dps warstaff (same crit) with following results:
ice strike: 80% phys convert to Cold stormwave: 80% phys convert to light bell: no convertion shattering Palm: adds Cold dmg assuming you can socket it with 2x 20 increased physical damage or with 2x 30 increased elemental dmg runes or 2x +12 crit bonus dmg 52dps physical weapon with +60% increased elemental dmg: ice strike 8909 stormwave 1785 bell 1029 shattering Palm 1559 52dps physical weapon with +40% increased phys dmg: ice strike 9049 stormwave 1862 bell 1106 shattering Palm 1313 52dps physical weapon with +24% crit Damage bonus: ice strike 8581 stormwave 1724 bell 1057 shattering Palm 1313 53dps elemental weapon (no phys dmg) with +60% elemental ice strike 9109 stormwave 1946 bell 1254 shattering Palm 1547 Last edited by Blubidiblub#0068 on Dec 21, 2024, 6:18:49 AM

A skill's dmg is based on the weapon dmg before it gets converted into other form (like elemental dmg). While the weapon damage depends on its' mods on it (like X% more elemental dmg), if u add 100% more elemental dmg, its "dealing 3-5 fire damage per attack" will change to 6-10, and this 6-10 will be inferred when calculating a skills' dmg. It actually works, but only when weapons deal elemental dmg through a single attack.
When the dmg is calculated and converted to another form, it will be influenced by other mods relevant to the after converted form ( like elemental dmg on passive skill tree). This assumption agrees with these data posted by Blubidiblub. Basically, u need to increase the total dmg in a single attack (weapon, gloves, rings) , and focus on passive skills most relevant to the after conversion dmg combination. For example, your attack is 100 phys ,10 fire, 10 lightning, your skill's basic dmg is 200%, and convert 80% phys into lightning, which results in 200-160=40 phys, 20 fire, 20+160= 180 lightning. So elemental/lightning passive skills is now more profitable, since they take a bigger part. |
