I know POE2 isn't POE1 but loot was ALWAYS lost on death in POE1 so why would it be the other way around when their new game is just ruthless 2.0?
Edit: I should have said: Is always lost in POE1 when there is no portal left. Hum no loot on map are no lost in Poe1 when die , sometimes you can't go again to gather it but if you can go where you die you find your loot in Poe 1

" Sure but since you only have one try in POE2 it's the same as in POE1 when you don't have a portal left. " Bump for what? You already have the answer. If you can't return to a spot where loot is on the ground, that loot is functionally gone. You can imagine your mageblood hanging out in the map forever, destined never to be found again if you like. |

" You didnt read the question then, feel free to not answer if you dont know, but im looking for something to explain if whats going on is intended or not. so far i just have a bunch of people arguing and telling me that in PoE 1, if all the portals are gone specifically on a map then something unrelated has happened in the past. i want a dev or some kinda source to show they actually changed it in PoE 2 to the point that if you die literally anywhere, that all loot laying on the ground in any place or any zone just disappears. Its never happened before and seems more like a bug than anything. Having people speculate doesnt help. |

Here's your answer: It's intended and not a bug.

Yes, that is the main risk of dying. You lose the items in campaign, and you lose the whole map in maps.
