Unlink account

I need to unlink an old account from steam so I can play on this account (my friend was kind enough to give me a key for EA), I have the account name but I have no idea what the email address was for it and cant seem to track it down in any way.

Any ideas on how I might be able to track it down without having the email address?

I think I have worked out that my original account was through steam and doesnt have an email associated maybe? I have emailed support, I think this might be the only way for situations like ours unfortunately.
