High CPU usage spike on loading screen when teleporting or changing zone
CPU usage has extreme spikes on moving from zone to zone. PoE 2 is the only game with this behavior.
![]() It was the worst in act 2 when transitioning from the Valley of the Giants into The Titan Grotto, going from 46 °C to 72 °C. 46 °C is otherwise my normal operating temperature while playing games (also seen on this graph while in combat with many monsters and effects between highlighted loading screens/zone transitions), and 72 °C is when I'm stress testing the CPU at 100% for all cores in Cinebench, so this is very abnormal for me. I'm not really "feeling" any issue but I don't like to constantly expose my CPU to these spikes. It's possibly why others are crashing in loading zones too. Here in red is highlighted first enter into a new zone (from Infested Barrens to The Azak Bog). Green highlights are subsequent transitions between those two zones.
![]() It looks like a shader compilation causing the huge spikes. I have adequate cooling but this can easily crash a system with insufficient cooling, or even cause degradation on improperly configured chips. If it's shader compilation issue, option to compile shaders should be available from the login menu because consistent high output for a few minutes and then smooth operating temps after shaders are compiled is better for long-term CPU stability than frequent spikes due to zone transitions. |

I did some more testing today, and generating a zone and reentering that same seed causes the exact same spikes. I suspect the spikes would be higher if I deleted my shaders. There should be option to compile shaders, and maybe reconsider how zone loading/seed generation works.

Hey everyone, hope this will helps:
I am using Intel core i5 10th gen, and Asrock 560M Steel Legend. There is an option in the BIOS going to top right to Advanced, then OC Tweaker, and CPU Config. Now, look for the Intel Turbo Boost Technology and disable it. This will limit the CPU not to go above 100%. After i disabled it, my CPU is running at 50-80%, depending on the areas, and solid 70-85 fps(I capped it). Before this, during load times, switching areas or having a lot of NPCs in the area, my CPU was going at 130% and more and the fans were spinning like crazy. My GPU is Nvidia 3060 RTX 8gb. Hope this helps. Disabling that option doesn't harm the CPU, it just tells it to run at it's recommended capacity by Intel. Let me know if it works for you guys. |

I have the same issue as the OP on 13600kf paired with Z790.
CPU spikes in temperatures and power consumptions when entering portal to a new map for example. I have decent/good cooling system. On maps CPU stays in the range of 50-60 degree Celsius with a power consumption of 70-90W, while on loading screen (entering portal) it can spikes to 75-80 degree and 130-140 W power consumption sometimes.
