PSA: POE2 Missing Character (PS5) After Linking Email/Account (Resolved)

Someone please sticky this. I have read through many posts and no one has posted the answer. Perhaps there is, but a number of them were looked through on the forum and other sources prior to figuring out what happened. If I can save anyone time or prevent heart attacks then this will serve it's purpose.


Issue:

I purchased the 2nd tier supporter pack on PS5, created a mercenary, and have played since the evening of the EA launch. I linked an email to my account after discovering the trade site. The email turned out to be linked to an account I used to try POE 1 long ago. I logged out some time after and back in a couple hours later to find myself at the character creation screen rather than the character select screen. I facepalmed over rebooting the game and seeing that screen again.


Disclaimer:

The situation isn't a bug. This is just an issue that isn't apparent to the player and unfortunately results in a very jarring experience. I am sure it has caused a number of people grief (myself included), but is easily corrected.

Note: This is only for a very specific situation and you should make sure this is the exact scenario you find yourself in. If you don't meet the following pre-reqs or if the resolution isn't applicable / doesn't resolve the issue, I recommend you submit a ticket to support as you may have an actual issue. If you proceed and don't meet the pre-reqs and it prevents the ability of GGG staff from recovering your character, you do so at your own risk and you have been warned. For those who find yourself meeting the criteria there is no risk. If you still dont see you character after switching accounts then a genuine bug as occurred and should be reported to their staff.


Pre-Reqs:

* This is applicable to PS5, but could potentially include xbox and PC. If you are on a different platform and the issue and resolution apply to you, consider leaving a post if no one else has yet confirmed that information for your given platform.

1. Account was created on PS5 and linked to your PSN account.

2. The PSN account linked is not already linked to an existing account.

3. You logged into your account and made a link such as email which was already tied to an existing path of exile account.

4. You no longer see any characters the next time you logged in.


Resolution:

1. Create a new character.

2. Press start and log out.

3. Go back to the character select screen.

4. Press R3 to bring up the account selection.

5. Select your other account.

6. Feel embarrassed for almost shitting your pants.


Feedback:

For my fellow devs I would put forth a couple of suggestions.

1. Allow account selection even if no characters exist.

2. Make the account logged in large and bold so its clear which account is logged in.

3. If multiple accounts are detected, give a visual cue that multiple accounts exist and they can change it. Even an icon to indicate the account has a character created on it.

I personally spent several hours trying to figure out what the problem was. I looked at a number of threads with most being this exact issue or a slight variant only to see the thread die with no resolution. The only reason I didn't panic was that I assumed that it was tied to the account link process and it was done while I was logged in. However, early access bugs happen and it is a part of the process. Nevertheless, I am loving the game and think it is phenomenal!

Same issue but not the solution for me. No Account appears when hitting R3.
Just a notification about private leagues that can not be migrated. When Playing on PS5 I can not start it on PC and vice versa, but no cross-progression.
On PS5 it even says that the POE2 EA is still possible to purchase.
Raised a ticket 5 days ago, still waiting if the tech support can help.

I definetly will. Won a key for PC got excited and wanted to play with all the cross-whatever-stuff. Bought another key for PS and now I am stuck for more than a week. #feelsbadman

I had a POE account not tied to my Sony account, then accidentally made a second one using the same email. I linked them both, and now can't access my old character, even when picking R3 on the menu. It shows that my other account existed, but when I select it, it displays nothing. I submitted a ticket, but we'll see how it ends up going.
I just want to play my high level monk:(

why not just marge all accounts?

I linked my account on PSN and instead of marging them they used my PSN account to create an account that has no character on

just bad implemnetation

I did the same thing. Tries to link my existing account to the path of exile website and ended up with two accounts on the game. When I switched to the new account on PS5 al my characters disappeared on the other. Now neither account has any characters except the one it made me create. This is so screwed.
