Bosses are the #1 best part of the game but less than 1% of the game? Boss Mode for end game...
First off: Bosses become extremely easy. And end up going down far too quickly. It's not unusual to see a streamer take down a boss in less than 30 seconds. And I myself find the game getting easier with each passing act. Which is an unusual progression imo. I had the most challenge in Act 1.
Furthermore even for players who aren't getting good gear and aren't creating optimal builds.... they end up beating these amazing bosses and are back to the more ordinary gameplay of going through extremely long levels. The bosses take up too Little of the gameplay. So how do we fix this? That is a good question and I do not have an answer yet. I personally would love to see more boss encounters but that would take a lot of work by the devs if they were entirely new bosses. How about this... what if there was an end game mechanic where you travel back in time or ''revisit'' your most iconic foes and it would allow you to play harder and longer.... versions of the bosses you played in the campaign. Of course with additional tuning. Because a lot of Act 1 bosses would be very easy by now due to having to learned the mechanics. ***Also this opportunity to revisit these bosses would come with lore and voice overs explaining their origins***. Put them in some new arenas. Nothing fancy and add a few secrets that encourage you to interact w the rocks and decorations. Structure of this Boss Revisiting end game content: you face 2 bosses. One after another. And deeper into the end game you may have to face 3 bosses. You have perhaps 2 attempts per boss. Also these bosses would have some level of additional damage mitigation so you aren't melting them within 30 seconds. This would see players actually engaging with the boss mechanics as nature intended. The best part of the game would come to fruition. Imagine if for secondary characters.... once you beat the campaign it unlocks a 2nd game option which could use the same servers and same economy: New Campaign for leveling characters (optional): Areas are twice as small. Enemies give twice as much XP and gold and are more difficult. Slightly improved loot drop frequency. Bosses remain but have buffs and 100% more life. This allows people to enjoy the best part of the game more often. The bosses. While also allowing people to level their characters faster in order to reach their preferred end game content. |
