Trade Auto-Whisper and Manual Whisper Not Working – Path of Exile 2 Bug
Hello everyone,
I'm encountering an issue with the Path of Exile trade website and in-game whispers, and I hope someone can help me resolve it. Context: On the official Path of Exile trade website, when I search for an item a player is selling, I usually have two options to contact the seller: Auto-Whisper Button: Clicking this button should automatically send a private message in-game to the seller. However, when I try this, I get the following error: "Invalid query: Your account must be in-game to use auto-whisper" The problem is, I am logged into the game, and my Steam account seems properly linked to the website. Manual Copy-Paste Whisper: Alternatively, I can copy the whisper text from the trade site and paste it directly into the in-game chat. But when I do this, I encounter another error: "Failed to send private message to charactername: The specified character does not exist" This happens regardless of the seller or item I try to message about. I’ve double-checked that I’m online, logged into the game, and connected to Steam. Yet neither method works. Has anyone experienced this issue before? Is there something I’m missing, or could this be a bug? Any advice or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! Are you using the same account on the trade website as you are using to play? You should check to make sure you've selected the correct sub-account at the top left, and make sure you've signed in using the same method you use to play (if you play via Steam, log in via the Steam button on the website, etc).

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m doing. I log in using the Steam button since I play via Steam, and the correct account and character list appear on the trade website.
What’s strange is that I’ve already bought and sold items successfully in the past without any issues. However, since last night, it’s suddenly stopped working. Now I get these errors every time I try to auto-whisper or manually whisper a seller. Has anyone else encountered this recently, or could this be a temporary issue? |

Update:
I’ve double-checked everything again: I am logged in via the Steam button on the trade site. My account appear correctly on the site. I am online and active in the game while trying to whisper. This issue started last night, and I haven’t changed any settings or configurations. I’ve also tried clearing my browser cache, logging out and back in, and even restarting both the game and my computer, but the problem persists. Is it possible that this is a server-side issue or something related to Steam account integration? I’d appreciate any suggestions or insights. |

This seems to be a database sync issue and how it interacts with accounts/clients/.Coding is hard!
GGG's way of handling linked accounts seems borked at best. Totally broken at worst. I have Steam and PS5 EA using the same account. I play the same characters in both clients, and aside from PS5 micro transactions not showing up on Steam, everything else is the same. I also have another old account that IS correctly linked to this main account. I'm totally unable to interact with /trade2 (and yes, correct league)I also have a Twitch account correctly liked to this main account as well. Twitch drops are totally missing. POE site, as well as Steam, show these items as verified. Where are they? Totally unable to interact with /trade2 in either client, Steam or PS5. "invalid inquery: your account must be in-game to use this feature" is the message if I'm on Steam, PS5, whatever. I'm forced to have friends whose accounts "magically" do work, interact with trade for me. This puts me at a huge disadvantage in end game as I'm unable to use trade to support myself. AKA I'm screwed! I know this is EA, but selling EA access and totally gimping people to SSF without a word of warning isn't cool at all. Blizzard, In spite of being inept at making modern games, at least has this issue handled correctly. The complete lack of any support on this subject from GGG, and the disragard of emails to support is terrible. 12+ days an zero reply. I guess they too busy trying to put out all the "account hacked" fires because their 2FA is broken for stand alone client. Good game + Game breaking account bugs + no support = not a good game. |
