How does the golden charm work?
The trigger is killing a rare or unique monster.
Question is, does it also work on the one that triggers it? Last bumped on Dec 20, 2024, 7:11:26 PM

bumping this, was just having a discussion with someone about this question and i'd really like to know..
to me it seems clear that the intention is for the rarity to apply to the rare that triggers it.. otherwise the 1 second default duration seems to make the thing nearly 100% useless. |

My guess is a follows:
1. Rare dies. 2. The charm is activated. 3. The loot of the rare is generated. 4. One second passes. |
|
I agree that the guess matches the likely intention. How can we measure or confirm this?

well my friend who i was talking with about it was monitoring his character sheet while he killed rares, and his character sheet only updated after the rare died.. he believed it to be conclusive proof that it was only taking effect after the rare died.. i agreed that if it works that way it's a glaring oversight but i just can't imagine that it would be coded that way and given such a short time, because otherwise it would just be useless. his rebuttal was that generally in poe 1, "on kill" effects don't happen to the creature that triggers them.
i think it's most likely that the rare dies and the charm activates in the same server tick, and the character sheet is updated later because there are more important things to update than the sheet that will probably not be open 99.999% of the time while players are killing monsters. i'd like some feedback from ggg on this, but maybe it'll be better to ask on the discord. i know i've seen screenshots of a lot of small questions answered there, and i'm sure they have their hands full with more pressing issues right now. |
