Trail of Chaos, Soul Cores Sections glitch

Mobs became infinite after i picked up one core. Tried to pick up another but after clearing mobs and mobs of waves they spawned in at a rate which overwhelmed the map. I just saw them keep spawning, when there was no more room they would spawn directly on top of me. Is this intended ? Are mobs suppose to spawn endlessly after collecting a soul core ?
