Hunker Down ?
Has anyone used this node yet ?
I've been pondering it. If it works as simply as it's written, using the active block (Raise Shield) in a regular fight would practically instantly fill your HP since the passive says "Recover 20 life when you block" and Raise Shield says "Block all blockable incoming hits"... So in theory every tiny hit from the small trash mobs will give you 20 hp? Obviously less effective against big hitting mobs and bosses who'll break your block, but still on paper this passive seems extremely powerful for regular farming, doesn't it? On paper it sounds good, but the most dangerous thing in the game is probably getting swarmed, then stunlocked, and then you can't escape because rolls don't work that way. So, you're low health, raise your shield, regen, and then, when you lower your shield your f-ed. Also, there is a difference between "hits" and all other damage. DOTs (Damage Over Time) and AOEs are not hits. Also, "blockable" is a big sign that it's probably not want you are expecting. There is a unique shield called "The Wailing Wall" that would do what you intend. Take a look at that.

Have used it. It's just bad. At first, recover isn not gain on hit. Recover occurs over 4 seconds, so its not instant. On top of that about 20-30% of even white mob hits are unblockable and every single unblockable hit from white mob can deal about 500 or more damage at t1 maps. So if you're low hp and raise your shield being surrounded by mobs you'll probably just die.

Ah, damn...
Does that mean that right now shield builds are bad? |

" It's possible to use "The Wailing Wall" unique shield to mitigate this, but the shield will get out-leveled. Eventually anyway. I use it on my warrior and have been increasing my passive block chance. Right now I have something like ~40% block chance (passively, the shield doesn't let you block), ~45% physical damage reduction, and ~30% evasion. I'm still using the shield in Cruel so I can't speak for Maps yet. " They aren't "bad" per say, but they aren't great. There are waaaay too many things in this game that can't be blocked with a regular shield. AOEs and DOTs make sense that you can't block them, but you also can't block many other attacks. "Wailing Wall" is the only shield that seems to do so and only because it's unique. |
