Item level requirements when crafting

So I noticed (the hard way) that when crafting it will increase the level requirement of an item. Is there a set amount it will increase? Does it have to do with the tier of affix applied? Or character level when crafted? I know D2 had a similar effect when using Charsi to make rares and when crafting. Anyway, just curious.

it's probably the same as in poe1, except that in poe2 a level 1 item is worse than a level 2 item.

if you roll a item with a higher item tier, it might get affixes with requirements higher than your char can actually has

Just as a clarification, this is only something to worry about if you get items from other players.

The tier of affix that an item can roll is based on the item level of the item. An item will never roll an affix requiring a level higher than its item level.

So you have nothing to worry about with adding affixes to items that you dropped yourself, on the character you dropped them on. But if you bought an item from another player, or traded it to an alt, you will need to check the item level before using any currency on the item, since it could brick the item for a lower level character.
