Cannot teleport back to trial of Sekhemas after completion

I completed the trial and was opening chests. My inventory was full so I teleported back to town to sell then come back and pick up the gear. Well I can't go back through the portal. I also didn't ascend before teleporting. So looks like I'm going to have to complete the trial again?
