Unlink my Account

Hi Guys,
Can someone assist me, I have emailed support but assume that over the holidays I will be reluctant to get a response any time soon. I linked my Xbox account to my steam account and have lost my characters on my Xbox account is there some way to unlink from steam to make my Xbox the main account, worried about loosing my characters on there. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. If your accounts are merged, you should still be able to play using your original account on XBox (with your characters and progress) by changing which sub-account you're using to play. If you're having issues finding where to do this, you may want to try creating a character, and then returning to the character select screen as this would be where the option to swap sub-accounts should be located.
