Targeting Mode Rules

Hello,
I just had to post because this issue has been driving me insane!
I'm playing on PC with a controller and the Targeting Mode is a nightmare.

Either in Dynamic or in Focus mode, the automatic target selection is set to the farthest enemy and for the life of me I can't see how this could ever benefit anyone, especially since all mobs are moving towards players and already hitting them before we can manually find an adequate, close target.
The amount of spells missing rotations for curses and dot builds is just too much to handle right now!

I am playing a chaos build (Essence Drain, Contagion and Enfeeble) and in most encounters my initial target is automatically selected in the dumbest ways possible. I never get "the closest target" or the "one already engaging me" and God forbid, at this point "the mob already hitting me".
By the time I get to manually dump all my DOTs on an adequate target, it dies and the selection of my target moves back to the farthest mob once more!

WHY?

Who thought it would be a good idea to set the targeting system like this?
I don't want to play an AoE or some silly spammy build that floods the map with projectiles. Please fix the targeting by adding more rules to the system and providing players with options for different gameplay.
