Stormweaver Spark Build: Stormcharged contradicts to Controlled Destruction?

I've been following the stormweaver spark build leveling guide on maxroll.gg and am currently at level 36. The guide is telling me to get the Stormcharged node on the skill tree and also put the support gem Controlled Destruction for the main damage skill Spark. The descriptions of the skill and support gem are:

Stormcharged:
40% increased Elemental Damage if you've dealt a Critical Hit Recently
20% increased Critical Hit Chance

Controlled Destruction:
Supports Spells that Hit enemies, boosting their damage but preventing them from dealing Critical Hits.
Supported Skills deal 30% more damage with Hits and Ailments
Supported Skills cannot deal Critical Hits

So, basically Stormcharged is giving you more damage if you deal critical hit, but Controlled Destruction prevents you from dealing critical hit but grants you more damage. Do they contradict to each other? Or am I missing something here?

Hey there, you are exactly right, this node doesn't work with Controlled Destruction if Spark is the only spell you're casting. You can tell because when you hold shift and hover over Stormcharged while controlled destruction is socked into spark, it shows that Stormcharged doesn't give any damage. But if you unsocket controlled destruction, it does increase the damage.

However, if you have a different way to regularly crit, such as with orb of storms, I believe that it would apply the damage increase to Spark. Just make sure Orb of Storms crits at least once every four seconds for constant uptime.
This totally makes sense. Thanks a lot for the clarification.
