Cannot collect item drop after boss kill

While fighting Mektul, the Forgemaster. I died, however my remaining Orb of storms killed him a half second or so later. When i repsawned at the checkpoint, the game no longer allows me to enter the "arena" to collect the Hammer of Kamasa.. It is just sitting on the floor in the lava area, and I cannot get down to it.
