USB Ports 'Dying' when Playing?
Hello,
Not sure how to best explain this. I am using a laptop with quite high specs. I've played other, equally intensive games on it without this issue. When I play POE2, whatever USB port my mouse is connected to, over time, gets disconnected and suddenly that USB port is now 'dead'. The mouse refuses to work on those 2 now, but will work on a third connection. It's ONLY when I play the game, and only happened after an update or two, don't remember which one, of course. When it happened the first time, I thought it might simply be overheating from the battery or laptop. When it happened the second time, I had to quit playing POE2 simply for the reason that I cannot lose all my USB ports. This has never happened before. I tried multiple ways of resetting my USB ports in case, but I'm not sure if they are permanently damaged, whether it was heat or whether the game has done something. Can anyone guide me in the right direction to either restore their function, find out their status or a fix for this? I paid for the early access and the game is great, but I won't play it simply for the potential that it might brick another port. This may sound silly but have you tried reinstalling the game?

" Yes, although at this point, without a tech reviewing the situation, I'm afraid to even try again. I cannot lose more USB ports. My best option in the near future is to try to reinstall everything, including Windows and see if the ports come back. |

This happens to me to, but I'm not on a laptop. Originally, I thought the problem was my (old) graphics card consuming too much power through the motherboard causing the USB ports to "fail to supply" enough power to the USB devices.
But then, I run a dual boot setup and I can play PoE2 just fine on Linux. This only happens on Windows. On Linux, I have configured pretty much all of the USB ports to "never sleep", that is to never suspend the power to connected devices after any period of inactivity. Although I did the same thing on Windows' Device Manager, the problem still persisted, so the GPU issue was still on the back of my mind. Now, however, I upgraded my GPU (to a 3080Ti). And the USB devices (more precisely the entire USB bus) getting reset/disconnected is still happening, only on Windows, exclusively only when launching PoE2, all other games in my Steam library run just fine. Just in case anyone finds this post via Google like I just did, I'm trying to figure out if the common denominator is the motherboard/CPU combo. I'm on a B550 (Gigabyte AORUS) with a 5600G. This "combo" is known to have "USB disconnect" problems when the BIOS is left to the "default to PCIe v4" configuration, it has to be manually set to PCIe v3 to keep all peripherals stable (the 'symptoms' are pretty similar to what PoE2 triggers as well). |

" Interesting. The issue with mine is that the USB ports simply don't work anymore. I am also on Windows, but this also ONLY happened with POE2 being played. I'm running an RTX 3080 and AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with Radeon Graphics on a Lenovo Legion 7 16ACHg6 laptop. |

Do you guys have a KB+Mouse and a controller connected at the same time?
Do you use any USB hubs while playing? If you're running any software like RGB control or Razer Chroma try to disable it and test? Last edited by ps7ekken#7379 on Jan 27, 2025, 1:51:19 AM
