[Chronomancer] - Just a worse Stormweaver (GGG please read)
As the title says I've become quite frustrated by the lack of uniqueness and competitiveness that the chronomancer offers - to the point I almost gave up playing the class. GGG really needs to revisit this ascendancy because it feels cheap, useless and just unfair to play.
At the moment its a gimmick class that that does not actually excel in the end game like the other classes. The whole point of ascendancies is to make a class feel unique, in a way that the ascendancy class can do something that no other class can do while still putting out good damage. The chronomancers unique "strengths", are not actually strengths, or just straight up not unique and special and the ascendancy feels like a worse [insert other class here]. My reasoning is as follows: ---The Okay--- - Time skip: Pretty useful in a pinch and a nice to have for health and mana regen, but can be too unpredictable in fast pasted endgame to actually be reliable. - Recoup: Amazing health regen skill, probably the best passive the chronomancer gets at the moment. ... and that's it folks ! ----The Bad---- Here I'll break down the key areas of the ascendancy and how it is just worse than other ascendancies. > Elemental damage/aliments: Stormweaver/infernalist/invoker do it better, simple. > Cast speed: Chronomancer get 50% more cast speed every 12s for 4s, stormweaver can easily get greater than 25% more cast speed (with 5 passives in the tree to boost arcane surge ) the key here being as 25%+ boost CONSTANTLY! > Mana recoup: Again stormweaver with arcane surge gets arguably better mana regen than recoup can offer. > Cooldown reset and reductions: Pretty good skill, but currently there are like 2-3 strong skills with long cooldowns in the game that actually benefit from this, and one of them gets you playing a glorified warrior, and the others are not damage skills. > Slowing down enemies, and time freeze: Gimmick, allows you to just reposition better, and wail on mobs for a few seconds - Offers no significant dps boost to be competitive on the ladder. Its a survival skill. ----TLDR---- Simply put chronomancer is positioned to be a tanky/support/utility class that cannot compete DPS wise to be competitive on the ladder. It has one damage boosting skill that makes casting faster, but stormweaver and monk can do that better. I believe in offering solutions to problems I raise, and as such here is what I think GGG should do to fix this ascendancy (And in doing so make it feel unique, competative and fun to play!) + Quicksand hourglass should give a FLAT 50% more cast speed bonus. + Remove time freeze as its a gimmick and add a mechanic that instantly applies all the damage over time ticks on mobs instantly. So a big damage nuke with a long cooldown that synergises with the cooldown reduction nodes. + Recoup ascendancy should also apply to mana. I wrote a Chrono review. It's basically like playing in slowmotion. And even if you stop time, you still need defenses and still need to deal the same amount of damage other classes do.
