game "froze" and deleted my inventory and map

was running a map with breach/alter/boss/+1 lvl with a waystone that i pumped distilled ire into and an omen. during the map i started the breach and it had just started when all of a sudden the game "froze" in the weirdest way. my character and mobs were frozen, buff timer stopped, but the mist was still moving and i could open my inventory and options still and mouse over objects on the ground to see the tool tip.

was able to press the exit path of exiles button but not return to login or return to character selection.

upon relogging my inventory reverted to what it was previous to entering the map and all loot from the map was deleted.

the waystone and the map were also consumed.
