What is fun to just collect currency or put found random gear in bank for 1-10ex? And what do you achieve? Streamers breaking game with insane gear and 1-shotting bosses? So challenging so fun.
Upgrading items should be all about finding items or crafting.
So how about instead build unique ways of crafting instead just pray rng you don't have "dead stats" or bad values? Maybe how somekind d2 rune system? Maybe actually proper workbenches?
Or how about improve drops. Better uniques? Maybe have somekind set items?
Like these are just random ideas. But DUDE. collecting 10 exhalts and browse web to get random item is boring.
And I know there are SSF league but droprates and current loot mechanics involve around trading.
Also why can't you party in SSF? You can still have it self-found but able to party with friends you meet.

On your last point, you can party in ssf it's called a private league where you and your buddies are ssf together. You can also just play trade league to party but not trade.
As far as your point about trading being the best way to get gear, it *always* well be this way. It's literally a law of the universe that if you enable trading, the best path to gear will be to trade.
For example, you introduce deterministic creating again. However much or little time energy and materials you on average need to make a good weapon, it'll be faster to trade for it. Now sure perfect high tier rolls will still be expensive, but making a piece that's at say 90% potential power deterministically means you're right back at square one with your original complaint; why alt / scour 3 thousand times then meta bench craft when you can spend about the same and just buy it.
The only way to increase the value of ground loot and personal crafting is to make it how it is right now; mostly rng. This results in being able to obtain an item at 85/90% of potential power far harder and it lowers the floor for your "average" item, which actually increases the chance of items you pick up yourself and "craft" to be more valuable.
Tldr; if trade exists, it's the best way to get gear 9 out of 10 times, no matter what systems you introduce.

You can point me to ssf but since majority is in trade league that is where all balance and design is focused to.
It doesn't have to be only "deterministic". It can be mix of rng. But even if some were deterministic they don't have to be bis. You could have rng rares that have potential to be better.
1. You can have something like set items from d2 that are no useless but not best like rare items.
2. You can have crafting bench where you can disable some stats like thorns or something else you want or don't want from list from aff./suff. list.
3. You can have rune system where players learn recipies. Those runes would only drop in specific maps and not tradable. Some good/great but not bis.
4. You can add more orbs in the game to introduce new
5. You could increase also drop rates for orbs but they won't because it's balanced around shitty trade league where some players get 10 exhalts from map with broken builds.
Also thank you saying that trading is for people who are lazy. That's why you should not bow to lazy people and remove trading from game or adjust it at least so it's not as r**** as it's now.

The issue with trade is that it will never feel satisfying that you created that character on your own. It is literally borrowed power traded for currency.
PoE SSF was awesome because you could target farm specific uniques, fossils, essences, harvest juice, bosses etc.
In PoE2 I would rather take one for the team before I start SSF in there. But maybe once they introduce somewhat of a crafting system (they are unable to balance meaningful loot), I'm in.

I've always viewed trade as turning what I've found into things that I need. It makes something that drops that I don't need have value still. Even though the thing I needed has a few extra steps to get via trade, I still get a thrill from finding something of value that I don't need because it leads to the thing I do.
One way or another, you're turning your time and effort into things you need.
I view deterministic crafting as monotonous and boring. To each their own I suppose.

Trading is 200% deterministic. You trade common currency (drops everywhere) to rare item with 100% all stats you want.
While I only want to focus on drops. Allow to maybe have 20% deterministic like pick 1 stat you don't want or want and rest 80% rng.
It's also fun to have at least few chase items. Make them so they are not as good as rare with perfect rolls but something you are happy about if it drops.
Biggest problem with trade is that currency drops are balanced to it. So morons who can 1-shot whole map direct devs how to implement things.
Currency should never be tradable. Do work for yourself instead let others do it for you.

Nah, killing mobs is not the endgame but rather brain damage. The endgame is effective killing so you can invest in the market and earn currency. If I wanted to click, I would play solitaire, my lad.

Get rid of 3rd party trade sites all together??? there you go make it rng for items and regular build up of armor and weapons.. i just think its funny all together people say you can have 100s of builds you cant lol.... you need to trade for it and crazy thing is that some builds say your going to need to buy said item eventually froma 3rd party, which sucks for most casual gamers also more so sucks for console gamers , unless your have a clan or group of friends play your sol on many items in the game..
