Killing Boss after Death

I was fighting the King in the Mists, the boss of Freythorn in 'cruel' mode. I died but then the boss died right after me due to poison.

I saw some items start to drop and the big ritual trade in alter light up, but then I respawned. Upon respawn, the items are gone and the ritual altar is no longer functional.
