Own game on Steam & Xbox-why are they separate accounts?

I need help. My profile here on the POE site is linked to my Steam account.
I bought POE 2 on xbox, I bought POE 2 on Steam also. I tried to link my Microsoft account also but it says I 'cannot link until I complete the unlocking' - ?

My xbox & steam accounts are separate for the game. I thought if you own on both platforms and link you share the stash, characters etc and can seamlessly go PC->Xbox and back.

When I logged into steam for the first time, I was at a new character screen instead of all my xbox characters.

Is it possible to play the way I wanted to? Thank you to anyone who can help.

At the moment, the account linking system is completely busted, and there are all kinds of issues. They say to contact support, which is a good first step, but it's taken over a month for my issue to be addressed, and I still don't know if it'll ever be resolved.

Short answer is yes, you should be able to play how you intend, but it may be a while before they sort this out.

try making a new char then log out to char select screen look for drop down menu top right switch sub accounts see if that works
