Are Central Europe second-rate players for GGG? Latency
For a few days now there has been a problem with the connections in Germany, which is why there are huge lags as a resident of southern Poland and very often due to the poor infrastructure in Germany (and supposedly such a rich country) for a dozen or so years it has often happened that the servers in Germany get clogged. That is why every MMO game whose servers are located in Western Europe from time to time has a problem with pings for me. Whenever I follow the path to the server where the games are located, it clearly shows that the problem is always in Germany because the pings are normal along the way. It does not matter which gateway I choose, whether it is Italy, France, Amsterdam, it does nothing because it flies through this node in Germany anyway, and I do not intend to buy a VPN to change the path that I connect to the game. I don't want to accuse GGG of racism, but it's a bit strange that there are 6 servers between Spain and Germany, and none between Scandinavia, Germany, Greece and Moscow. Residents of Western Europe, in case of problems like in my case, can simply change the gateway because they have them all around. It's different for residents of Central Europe, so I wonder why you can't add a gateway in Slovakia or Hungary? So that we have some choice in case of problems

Just that you know, playing IN Germany is also impossible right now. There must be some sort of general problem affecting all of us. You have my +1 for better overall server support and improved data streams, no matter which country. By the way, Germany is neither rich nor do we have good infrastructure, it's more like a joke or myth. Best wishes to Poland.

Since I've been playing MMO games, a good few years, when I have a problem with ping, I use ping probe and there is always a traffic jam on your internet node somewhere in Germany. All traffic from southern Poland always goes through it to connect to any other server in western Europe. You, unlike me, can choose a gateway in Italy, Holland or France, and your connection will always be other servers. Central Europe does not have such luxury because GGG forgot that we exist and all servers are located west of Germany.

I live in Hungary, but on US servers the game is much more stable and there are no network problems. This is a joke.

This is what I was talking about, for in Central Europe even choosing a different gateway the route the connection takes is the same. Everything goes through Germany for me anyway. The only alternative is to choose the gateway in the other direction which is closest in Moscow... Countries such as Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Scandinavia as well as Greece and many other countries in Central Europe are doomed to one direction. When an internet node is clogged, we have no alternative, like residents of France, Spain, Switzerland, Holland etc. Why is there a gateway in Holland at all if they have very close to London, Paris or Frankfurt? And countries in Central Europe have far and are doomed to one gateway anyway. It would be enough to make a gate in Hungary and the countries from Central Europe would have an alternative and good pings. Looking at it this way, I guess we are really second-class players for them, but our money doesn't stink to them, it smells a bit of racism to me

Accusing them of racism is a very harsh move, I can't agree on that.
While I understand your problem - and affected myself these days - Path of Exile is the first game in my whole "career" with high latency. It massively depends what they are using, which server provider, how peering is done and so on. I have similar problems with US products when both partners don't invest in good peering, this can result in horrible loading times. So from my perspective it's a problem caused by GGG and/or the server provider since I have no problem in any other game I ever played. |

This is due to how the servers are placed looking at the map, as if there was some desert east of Germany all the way to Moscow. The placement of the gates looks terribly strange, it makes no sense even looking at the population density and distance from the gates. Evidently, the distribution of access to the servers is not dictated by their best placement, unless we take into account only Western Europe. It would be enough to move the gate from Amsterdam to Hungary, because it is completely unnecessary, unless it is built specifically for the rich Dutch and Belgians and let the rest of Central Europe swing...

Same problem happening in Western / Southern Europe. I live in Portugal and for most online games I connect to either Madrid or Paris servers. For some reason on PoE2 the best option seems to be London (no idea why).
Problem is I can only play the game during off-peak hours at the moment. During weekend afternoons I have so many lag spikes that I have literally given up playing the game. Same with 8pm-10pm UK during work days. Switching between London, Paris and Amsterdam does not fix it. This is happening with me and many of my friends. |
