(Fixed) Highly abusable Demon Form snapshot bug
EDIT: Fixed, thank you!
DF has a handful of wonky interactions, but this particular one gives players an utterly ludicrous and impossibly intentional power boost by switching passives and gear after activating it. DF appears to snapshot HP and ES values at the time one activates it, allowing a player to freely switch out equipment (and more) after using it, while keeping the benefits to HP/ES they provided. // Here are some examples: 1. Using a Ghostwrithe and speccing into ES scaling grants a significant amount of ES. Let's say that equipping one changes your total ES from 3k to 8k. Equipping GW, entering DF and unequipping GW keeps you at 8k ES, but now you can wear a different chestpiece. While the ES/HP values of the new piece will not be taken into account, all other properties will be, such as int, resists, hp regen, implicits, etc. 2. Using a high ES helmet only to use DF and switch to the Mask of the Stitched Demon for massive hp regen at no cost to ES, which the helmet is supposed to disable - because the ES has been snapshotted upon entering DF. 3. Speccing into Chaos Inoculation after using DF lets you keep your HP, but grants you chaos immunity and also makes DF assume your max HP is 1, meaning the form only inflicts 1 point of damage per stack per second (which is the same as if one had 200hp due to all values at 200 or below hitting the minimum value of 1). // Here's what makes it worse: All these issues and likely more not only happen when you use DF, but persist for the entirety of one's stay in a particular instance. Dropping out of the form after applying all the tricks mentioned above allows you to simply keep all those ill-gotten gains upon repeated DF activations so long as one does not change the map/instance. // Here's what it enables: I had over 800 stacks of Demon Form at one point. Which at that time was 13600% spell damage. And no, that's not missing any decimal points. I also managed to get 200 spirit on effectively a low-HP Ghostwrithe+Ming's Heart build. One could get even more. This just isn't right. // Here's how to easily reproduce it: 1. Don't have Chaos Inoculation 2. Equip a Ghostwrithe 3. Enter Demon Form 4. Unequip Ghostwrithe (result: ES and HP values do not change) 5. Exit DF (like by casting it again) 6. Note HP and ES still do not change 7. Enter Demon Form again and equip a chestpiece with spirit/int/regen/resist 8. Note the change in relevant non ES/HP values (examples in 6.) applying. I know snapshotting has been a thing in PoE1 for... well, ages, and I know it's already being (ab)used in PoE2. I just hope that at least this issue can be ironed out, in particular before the Druid comes out. I have a hunch that if transformations retain these issues, then Primal magic might suffer extensively. Until this has been patched I suppose I'll be obliterating lv82 maps with unlinked Spark on a sub 1div budget. I apologize in case this has been brought up already, but I could not find any proper report on this particular matter via the search function. I did peruse the forum only briefly however, as there were over 200 pages of results for my query. Last edited by GvAlverian#3911 on Jan 17, 2025, 4:07:17 AM Last bumped on Jan 15, 2025, 7:24:21 PM
