You do not have the required quest state in coop

My wife and I just started act 2, we cannot teleport to each other because it says we do not have the required quest state.

If we go back to clearfell and talk to the hooded one and travel east it will put us together, but as soon as we die we cannot click the return to checkpoint button, i says You do not have the required quest state again.
