what a stupid design is this?

for real stay close to him and only hide behind pillars when he does the fireballs

Ive done him on all classes so far. It can be frusterating if youre not doing damage fast enough.

But best advice is get in hit hard, and stay behind him, hide behind stuff when he AOEs. His tells are pretty clear.

Freezes really make his fight simple. If hes froze (or stunned) he goes down like prom night

He's a "Souls boss" as in the safest area in the room is right behind him or next to him because 90% of his attacks have slow turning speeds. Only time you need to run away from him is when his axe starts glowing and he's about to hurl those fire slash comboes.

If some boss is super hard from long range, try to get close to it and behind its back. This works against Blackjaw, Silverback, Colossus, Candlemass, Rudja, Mother of Filth and many others. It even works against Hillock and Izaro in PoE 1.
