Hand of Chayula Does Not Apply Mark/Curse Before Calculating Attack's Damage
Maybe this is intended, but if so it seems like it makes Hand of Chayula unnecessarily weak.
If you have Sniper's Mark and Despair socketed in Hand of Chayula, they don't increase the dmg of the FIRST attack against the enemy, because they only get added after calculating the attack's damage. Not having increased crit damage and lowered chaos resistance on the enemy for the first hit makes it far weaker, making it more likely that for every enemy, even White monsters, you have to hit it twice before killing it instead of just once. I tested this out by seeing how much % my Poison Nova from Plague Bearer filled up after each attack against alone enemies, and confirmed that on average it was filling up the same amount on the first attack against an enemy, regardless of whether or not Sniper's Mark and Despair were socketed in Hand of Chayula, or taken out. Meaning Hand of Chayula's damage on the first attack was not being increased by having Sniper's Mark/Despair socketed. Because of this, right now it's better to just not have any Marks or Curses socketed in Hand of Chayula at all, and instead use other support gems that increase the attack's damage, if you're trying to build around it as a main source of damage. I am not sure if I am testing it correctly ( I am playing a tri-element Monk w/ combat frenzy + resonace) as I am using HoC + Sniper's Mark as a flashy opener and a quick way to generate a powercharge to start my Charged Staff combo.
With all my heralds and combat frenzy turned off, if the initial hit against an enemy with HoC + Sniper's mark manages to crit (47%cc + 9% HoC inate cc + ambush support gem) I am able to generate a frenzy charge>power charge. This shows that at the very least, sniper's mark's buff and skill effect is accounted for by the initial HoC hit. On the other hand, I have no idea if debuffs like despair, hypothermia, etc. are being accounted for on the initial hit. |

Yes, you can still generate a frenzy charge on the first attack from Sniper's Mark, you just don't get the extra damage from Sniper's Mark, from my testing.
What I think it's doing is Attack>Calculate Damage>Apply Curses/Marks>Before finishing processing that attack, was this attack a crit? If so apply Frenzy Charge from Sniper's Mark |
