Questions about Rituals

Encountered an audience with the king in a ritual and obviously couldn't afford it. It reappeared probably like 4-6 times defered it each times, and on a map (it wasn't there this time) I died cause the mods were too intense. My question is : If you die on a ritual map, is it canceling the defered item ?

How many times can you defer an item until it will never show up with the reduced cost ?

And can you defer several items without overwriting those defered before ?
