Mapping Feedback
Mapping as an ultimate activity is the bees knees in terms of innovation, and progression. I've been doing a lot of mapping. So after 200 something hours of playtime, I've managed to create a good impression of that.
Punishment Stacking But the biggest pet peeve is punishment stacking. This is something that has been probably highlighted before, but I'd like to add to it too. Losing xp, losing a tablet, losing a node, losing loot, and loosing the unique modifier that made the map interesting to begin with. Look, I understand that people will always try to cheese the game, but simply pushing those away that want to enjoy the game A TAD EASIER doesn't seem like the choice bingo. I get being punished that I died by taking the loot away. And the map rerolling. But ffs, higher tier waystones are already difficult to find. It stings so bad when you invest a bunch of exalts to buy omens to roll a prefix only waystone, to end up dying because a mob half a mile across the map 1shot you (how?!?!) randomly or because some mob exploded after dying. It takes a huge dump on the player. "Yeah, git good noob". Nothing about dying randomly from an arrow coming 3 screens away screams skill. Why not allow people to pay exalts to re-add the map node, or at least add waystones as currency in the CX? That way, at least I have SOME way of getting back the node, while you keep your original sadistic vision of enjoying tormeting the slightly unskilled. The pilosophy of HARD. Everything has to be hard, difficult, punishing so you come out on top. I mean, ok, if you're a streamer, or a gamer that invests 90% of their time just to do gaming, then yes, you need a higher shelf life for the content in the game. But what about the rest? Instead of decreeing how the game should play and be, why not give people the option of chosing if they want to play you vision (nightmare, primal vision, etc) or just do mapping for fun in between lunch breaks. Both casual or non-hardcore gamers can coexist. The Dev Stream I have to be honest, I am a bit disappointed to hear adults come up with stuff like "But hey, I managed to get to maps in X time. I feel it's easy enough!" First off, not everybody is working as a developer on the game. A lot like in banking, this feels like insider trading. Secondly, please understand there are plenty of people with less skill (yep, they exist. not a crime. we deserve to live, we want to also play) that could potentially want to enjoy the game. Not going to lie, after 4h sessions of mapping my jaws are so clenched that my teeth hurt. Closing words All of the above doesn't take anything away from the state of greatness the game is in. Even if it pisses me off more than I am able to put into words, it deservers every bit of praise it gets. It is THAT good. Inovative. Fun. Everything. So i'm hoping that you'll take the feedback people have been pouring in to make the game better, and give every ARPG out there a run for its money. Photoshop ish mah life ! Supposedly it pales in comparison to the first game when it comes to mapping. I did very little of that early on(Delve release) and haven't played the first since to see the changes.
But I agree, the punishment stacking is a problem. |
