HUGE FPS Drops When Lightning on Screen

GPU/MoBo/Chipset drivers all up to date. Windows 10, up to date

Playing a deadeye ranger with a focus on lightning and frost. Main battle loop is something like "orb of storms->escape shot->lightning rod->lightning rod->lightning rod->lightning rod->lightning arrow/lightning rod until everything is dead.

I get a pretty standard 100-120 fps in 4k with high settings, but the minute I hit a mob and run the above, the screen fills up with lightning and my FPS plummets to as low as 40 fps. This is beyond ridiculous. Not only does the game slow to a crawl, it often lags/glitches out/stutters in a way that's getting me killed in the end game. The screen freezes for a half a second then I'm dead. The fact that GGG is allowing death punishments in endgame when their game is this wildly unstable is insane. Getting through most maps feels like luck at this point as there's a 500% chance that the game will lag and stutter, but about 50% chance it will happen at the worst possible time.

Please make your game more stable. If anyone has a fix for this in settings, I'd love to hear it. I will say, I'm not even remotely interested in using my $3,000 4k gaming PC at 1440 for a game that isn't pretty enough to justify these types of drops.

Edit: Five fucking times tonight I died doing endgame activities because my screen just froze because your game can't handle it's own mechanics. Please, please, please fix your shit. This is becoming unbearable.
