Characters lost after merge of Xbox and Steam accounts

I had played POE1 via both Steam and XBox accounts.
I had purchased XBox EA for POE2 and advanced with two characters.
I installed POE2 on PC and merged the XBox and Steam accounts via the ste described process. I can see separated all my characters in POE1 but on POE2 all created characters, all currency, all items are lost.
The game on XBox now starts from the very beginning with no existing characters.
Please make all my characters as well as the stash available to me again.

Noticed a new switch in the game UI that allows switching between linked accounts.
