Port the Skill Gem system from PoE2 to PoE1, and have it be part of the new league
Now before other comments come in, I mean the system of having slots not tied to gear, AND also not having the skill gem limit.
P The idea: as a new league, we change chromatic orbs and jeweler orbs to the PoE2 system (likely with changes to fit PoE1s progression style.) A big qol league, same with potentially adding wasd movement (I do understand though that rigging makes this difficult, I'd personally even be fine with clunky wasd movement if it meant having it as an option.) We still keep it at the same amount of slots so we don't powercreep the game (ie we still have a slot in skill that's max 4 slots, 6 slots, etc, AND you still have to link them together (this way it doesn't kill setups like CwDT Vaal Molten Shell, while also not increasing or decreasing total skill gem slots per character.) The reason: I think, personally, the worst part of gear progression is figuring out skill gem slots, dumping currency, just to roll a new chest later on. It felt much more rewarding to have my skills in the setup, and only worry about rolling the best chest possible. And with the rise of Ben's video regarding his opinion on current state of PoE2, I do like his suggestion of backporting the gem system, as he said it was one of the things he was most excited for when PoE2 was first announced (myself included). And I know this is a lot of work, which is why I believe porting this system into the new league mechanic would be perfect. The dev team was already working in PoE2 to help ship it, so I imagine there is a fair amount of the PoE1 team that would've been involved in helping balance PoE2. You guys are also fans of asset reusing, and used old PoE1 mechanics into PoE2 mechanics, so why not do the reverse? This could also potentially save time on being able to create a league for PoE1, with our new delays. In short, this is completely a WIP concept I just made up sitting in my car while listening to Ben's video, and others reactions. I came back to play PoE1 after PoE2, and I love both games, but now coming back after playing PoE2, I'm *spoiled* to the systems of PoE2, and I would like to see this still be a change in PoE1. I also still agree PoE1 is in an amazing state currently, and I wouldn't want to break that. Last bumped on Jan 31, 2025, 2:16:25 PM
