Make sure you click on the bottom left picture on the Download page - the top one is PoE 2, bottom left is PoE 1 for Windows.

I can't download either. I'm downloading the correct installer but when the launcher opens it goes to PoE2. Both PoE 1 and 2 are installing PoE2. This better get fixed before 3.28

It's not bugged.
You're all clicking the TOP downloader, which gets PoE2. We're human. Some of us make more mistakes than others. :)

the downloaded files are known as PathOfExile2Installer.exe and PathOfExileInstaller.exe so that they can't be mixed
Post a video that you really use the latter and still having POE 2 installed This is the start of forum signature: I am not a GGG employee. About the username: Did you know Kowloon Gundam is made in Neo Hong Kong?

Here, I'm not clicking on the wrong download as you can see in the video.
After the launcher finishes allocating space, it start a 120gb download which is NOT PoE 1 size. https://youtu.be/6mU2XJNm9AQ (Edit: The PoE 2 Installer also install PoE 2, surprisingly) Last edited by VimpeloTERA#7443 on Mar 2, 2026, 2:06:43 PM

" This thread was created over a year ago by someone posting about what the Path of Exile installer was doing. Which was a somewhat big claim - and judging by the lack of "+1" posts, was ultimately incorrect. If they had been correct, dozens or hundreds of people would have posted. It is not entirely clear why you resurrected such an old forum thread. So, first of all, any time you have a Technical Support issue you really should create your own thread. Secondly, in your video the installer runs for a moment, checks which files exist locally, and then reports that it is finished. If you are presenting this as proof of the installer's behaviour - respectfully, it isn't - as we never see what the installer would do in a situation where no pertinent files exist. Proof of the installer's behaviour would necessitate a thorough removal of all GGG-related files and directories, followed by a restart (not a shutdown - specifically a restart) of your PC. The problem shown in your video - which is almost certainly a distinct issue from what the original creator of the thread had been experiencing - is that Windows Search shows you a preview of one application, but then clicking on it opens another. Please understand that this is not directly related to the Path of Exile website, the website's download page, or the game's installer. Please further understand that GGG is just a random game development studio in New Zealand, and possess no means for remotely troubleshooting issues with your installation of the Windows OS. (Not having provided Technical Support for close to a decade, they wouldn't use it even if they did.) You say that "This better get fixed before 3.28" - it will be fixed when you fix it. The first thing to try would be rebuilding your search index. GGG doesn't like it when links are posted to third-party technical guides, and their forum moderators have a habit of arbitrarily editing posts to remove such links. It is perfectly safe to do so - although, it may take some time for the process to finish - and it might resolve the issue. The second thing to try would be to remove all Path of Exile- and Path of Exile II- related files and directories from your PC, restart your PC, empty your Recycle Bin, and then download the Path of Exile installer again. If the problem persists, there may be a more significant issue. You could try repairing your Windows install, but realistically you might in that case need to format the drive and start over. Here's how to attempt a repair: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files-79aa86cb-ca52-166a-92a3-966e85d4094e (Microsoft.com links usually aren't randomly edited out by moderators, but they're quite inconsistent.) Having spent thousands of euros on Path of Exile over the years, I will not be further supporting it financially until and unless GGG resumes offering Technical Support.
