Playing with controller & game swithes to mouse out of the blue

I'm gaming on Steam Big Picture Mode using a generic 360 controller. The game plays fine. But whenever I go in Menu to switch character a huge mouse /pointer icon appears on my screen. And nothing I do will take it off. I have to shut down the game & restart it. Everything plays fine until I select character. I soon as I get to main menu that's when the pointer icon appears. Hope this get fixed. It would be nice to switch characters without close the whole game down. Thanks for listening.
